American progressive metal band Dream Theater enchanted 5,000 concertgoers at KüçükÇiftlik Park on Thursday night as they played the long-awaited İstanbul leg of their “Along For The Ride” world tour.
Guitar licks and riffs mixed with cheers from the audience at Thursday night’s concert, which marked Dream Theater’s second appearance here in five years.
Thursday’s concert wrapped up the European leg of Dream Theater’s ongoing tour in support of their latest, eponymous studio album, released in September 2013.
Featuring James LaBrie on vocals, John Petrucci on guitar and John Myung on bass, the five-piece band opened its three-hour-plus set with “The Enemy Inside” from the album.
The set list featured 18 songs from the 29-year-old band’s six albums, including 1994’s “Awake,” on the occasion of the album’s 20th anniversary, and their 1999 CD, “Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory,” among other more recent releases, such as songs from their penultimate record in 2011, “A Dramatic Turn of Events.”
The concert was a joint effort between concert promoters Vera Music and Uru Group. Dream Theater’s last concert in İstanbul took place on July 4, 2009, also at KüçükÇiftlik Park.
