Bob Dylan enchants 4,000 at Black Box İstanbul concert

Bob Dylan and his band rocked İstanbul’s new concert hall Black Box on Friday night, delivering a 19-piece set list that captivated some 4,000 concertgoers.

The 73-year-old living legend and his band opened the concert with “Things Have Changed,” followed by an old hit, “She Belongs to Me.”

The main set list of the performance, part of Dylan’s Never Ending Tour, consisted of 17 unique rearrangements of songs primarily from his 2012 album “Tempest,” which is his 35th studio recording. Songs from that album on the set list included “Duquesne Whistle,” “Pay in Blood,” “Early Roman Kings,” “Scarlet Town” and “Soon After Midnight” and “Long and Wasted Years,” which marked the concert’s finale.

After a lengthy ovation Dylan returned to the stage for a two-piece encore of old gems, “All Along the Watchtower” and “Blowin’ in the Wind,” wrapping up a nearly two-hour gig.

Dylan’s concert was the second performance at Black Box İstanbul, which had opened the night before with a concert by the Scottish alternative rockers Travis.

The Dylan show, part of a campaign titled “Soma İçin Müzik” (Music for Soma), was attended by “three generations of Dylan fans,” according to a statement by Pozitif Live, the İstanbul-based concert promoter that runs Black Box İstanbul. All proceeds from the event will go to the Soma Youth Scholarship Fund of the Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) to support high-school and university students who have lost close relatives in last month’s Soma coal mine disaster in Turkey.

Black Box İstanbul will host the American alternative rock band the Pixies on Tuesday.
