Istanbul Fashion Conference begins this week

Istanbul will host the world’s leading textile and fashion companies Oct. 12-17, as well as bilateral business talks to be held during the eighth Oct. 14-15, which are expected to generate $2 billion of business.

The Turkish Clothing Manufacturers Association (TCMA) organized the conference to display its power in the fashion sector along with two different events – the 31st International Apparel Federation (IAF) World Fashion Congress and the Core Istanbul – to be held simultaneously at the Hilton Istanbul Bosphorus from Oct. 12-17. Purchase groups from many countries, including Germany, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and the Czech Republic, are expected to buy $2 billion worth of goods as a result of bilateral business talks to be held during the two-day conference. Sanem Dikmen, a board member of the TCMA, said Turkey has achieved a significant increase in ready-to-wear clothing and textile exports because of the impact of the rise in exchange rates, adding: “Foreign companies are purchasing in small amounts but frequently. So, the winds have turned toward Turkey.” According to Dikmen, a great number of corporate and individual participants will come to Istanbul to participate in the fashion events and this year’s turnover is expected to exceed that of last year.

TCMA Secretary General Burçin Özer said purchase authorities from world-famous football team BVB Borussia Dortmund would also take part in bilateral business talks during the conference, which will be sponsored by Germany’s largest factoring company — DS-Concept. DS-Concept will be accompanied by 12 purchase offices, including BVB Borussia Dortmund, the second largest football team in Germany. Additionally, authorities from a number of countries, particularly from Europe, and representatives of approximately 35 purchase groups having offices in Turkey will take part in business talks. World giants, including C&A, Carrefour Global, El Corte Ingles and French Connection, will also engage in talks that are expected to make a positive contribution to Turkey’s exports. Hugo Boss Chief Brand Officer Christoph Auhagen and Topman Design Director Gordon Richardson will deliver speeches about the current state and future of the sector during the conference.
